Dog Fouling - Burrows Lane

A dog waste bin has now been located close to the cricket club entrance on Burrows Lane - please ensure any dog waste is put into the bin - not pushed through any of the hedgerows.

New Road suffers from a lot of dog waste - please ensure that you clean up after your pet.

24.7.10: Dog waste bins have been requested for the Millwood area, and additional footpath stencils in Eccleston Park.

Ward committee

The next Eccleston Ward committee will be held on Tuesday, 14th September 2010, in De La Salle School, Mill Brow - please come along and suggest ways in which we can improve our environment - 7 p.m. start.

At the last Ward committee, 2 students from Eccleston Lane Ends School addressed the committee and asked for support to provide wildflower displays for some of our elderly residents.

Notre Dame, West Park and De La Salle School

Were you a past pupil of the above schools? This might be your last chance to see the school buildings as you remember them, as De La Salle embarks on an amazing and ambitious building programme which will transform it into a ‘state of the art’ school.

De La Salle School is holding its 19th Annual Art Exhibition in July this year and will be open to past pupils of Notre Dame, West Park and De La Salle on
Thursday 8th July at 6.30pm till 8.30pm.
We will be welcoming past students on this evening to come and view not only the fabulous art work in the exhibition, but also to look at the wonderful plans and detailed architects model for the new school build.

It will be an opportunity to meet old friends, catch up with teachers and to reminisce about your school days, past glories and hilarious stories…. before the build begins in October. Don’t hesitate just come along, we would love to see you.

De La Salle shortlisted for award

Students from De La Salle School have been shortlisted for the Speaker's School Council Awards in London - this in in recognition of their superb work on the Hate Crime agenda of the St. Helens Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership, during 2009/10 - they will be travelling to London on 23rd June to find out if they have been successful - GOOD LUCK TO DE LA SALLE !

Gritting up-date

As most of you will be aware we have had a number of heavy rain showers followed by freezing temperatures last night, and today is a similar pattern. The gritters were out twice last night immediately the rain had cleared. They did two circuits of the routes overnight and we inspected the roads again at 07:00 hrs this morning. The crews are out again at the moment and it will probably turn into a need to be continuously gritted for the next 48 hours. We have plenty of salt and an order to top up was issued last week.

At the same time we have called in some additional workers who are filling grit bins and carrying out spot gritting at locations causing problems. The main roads will obviously be the priority but any concerns can be routed through the security force who are in touch with the on call Engineer. Security are on 01744 23044.

I just wanted to keep you advised of our actions in case you have any contact about the issue. The Winter Gritting Plan is available through the council website and this tells you which streets are on the route for gritting.

Local Concessions Strike Gold with Go Active

For a lot of people, January means New Year’s Resolutions. One popular promise at this time of year is to get fit.

Go Active, St Helens Council’s all inclusive leisure membership, has come up with a scheme to make getting fit a realistic target for all the Borough’s residents.

2010 marks the 5th anniversary of Go Active. To celebrate the Council is offering local residents, who fall into its concession scheme, the opportunity to have unlimited access to Go Active facilities for under £18 per month.

As well as swimming pools and fitness centres, Go Active members have access to running tracks, courts for squash, tennis and badminton, saunas and steam rooms and full access to Central Fitness’ state of the art fitness studio in the Town Centre.

Councillor Wally Ashcroft, Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Heritage, believes the offer represents the Council’s commitment to increasing participation in exercise throughout St.Helens. He said: “Everyone at the Council’s Leisure Investment Services is excited about the New Year and celebrating our 5th birthday. The New Year Fitness Promotion represents a great chance for everyone in St.Helens to get in shape and feel great. St.Helens Council is committed to improving health within the Borough, and all of our Leisure staff do a great job in helping to achieve that goal.”

“The New Year Fitness Promotion is open to anyone aged 16 to 22 in full-time education, aged 60 or over, or eligible for a leisure Keycard as part of benefit entitlement.
